Gaming Reels for Voice Actors

Castable. Flexible. Built with your talent in mind.

If you’re a voice actor looking to create a gaming reel that feels playable and professionally finished, you’re in the right place.
I offer a gaming reel creation service designed specifically for fellow voice actors, whether you want full creative support, production-only help, or something in between.

As a multi-award-winning voice actor, writer and audio drama producer, my focus is always on performance first. The production should support the acting and the storytelling, creating scenes that feel believable, grounded, and alive. Every reel is approached individually.

Some actors need support shaping characters and finding the right material. Others arrive with a very clear idea of the kind of work they want to pursue. The process adapts to the actor rather than forcing everyone through the same approach.

Over recent years I’ve spent a great deal of time developing cinematic audio production, sound design, and character-driven storytelling through both my own productions and client work.
That experience shapes every reel I build, from scene pacing and atmosphere to performance direction and final mix decisions.

The aim is simple: to create work that feels immersive, emotionally connected, and ready to sit comfortably alongside modern game performances. This service is designed specifically for voice actors creating gaming and video game voiceover reels for agents, studios, and casting teams.

ANATOMY OF A GAMING REEL

Jane Wing's Gaming Reel
Jane's consultation focused on building a reel that felt varied without becoming fragmented. We discussed the genres she most wanted to work in, the accents she wanted to showcase, the types of characters she felt most drawn to, and the areas she wanted to avoid. Together we settled on a mixture of fantasy, science fiction and grounded dramatic work, creating eight scenes that would reveal different aspects of her performance while still feeling cohesive when assembled into a final reel.

Scene 1 - Dark Fantasy Mother

What We Wanted To Acheive:
A restrained by emotionally-weighted opening scene that established authority and dramatic credibility immediately.

Why This Genre:
Jane wanted the reel to lean heavily into grounded dramatic work rather than heightened caricature, so the opening scene was designed to feel cinematic and believable

Performance Focus:
Control, emotional restraint, subtle threat beneath the warmth

Production Approach:
The sound design was intentionally restrained at the beginning, allowing the performance to carry the scene before gradually widening into a more cinematic environment.

Scene 2 - Military Command

Objective:
To introduce authority and urgency in a more grounded, contemporary setting.

Why This Scene?:
Modern military and tactical games often require performances that feel authentic and controlled under pressure rather than overtly theatrical. This gave Jane an opportunity to demonstrate command presence and realism, as well as her US accent.

Performance Focus:
Authority. Clarity under stress. Controlled urgency without shouting.

Production:
The soundscape was built around radio textures, chopper flight, distant combat ambience and subtle comms processing while keeping the vocal front and centre.

Scene 3 - Shipboard AI

Aim of this scene:
To introduce contrast without abandoning credibility. This scene shifted the reel into science fiction while still keeping the performance grounded and character-led.

Choice of Genre:
Jane wanted to demonstrate versatility across genres, but we were careful not to jump into extremes too quickly. Science fiction gave us room to introduce a more stylised vocal texture while still maintaining subtlety and also incorporating a little humour.

Acting Focus:
Precision. Calmness under pressure. Retaining personality beneath the synthetic treatment.

Production Approach:
The AI processing was designed to support the performance rather than overwhelm it. Slight modulation and spatial effects were added carefully so the humanity in the voice remained present underneath the technology.

Scene 4 - The Old Mystic

What We Wanted To Acheive:
This scene was designed to showcase character transformation and age range while introducing a more mystical fantasy archetype.

Why This Genre:
Fantasy was one of the primary genres Jane wanted represented, and this scene provided an opportunity to explore an older, wiser character without falling into parody.

Performance Focus:
Wisdom. Mystery. Storytelling through subtle vocal choices rather than overt characterisation.

Production Approach:
The environment was designed to feel intimate and atmospheric, drawing attention to the interaction between the mystic and the adventurer (player) rather than relying on spectacle.

Listen to the finished scene:

Scene 5 - Possession

Objective:
This scene was designed to introduce something darker and more unstable, while still keeping the performance rooted in this dual character while also using vocal effect.

Why This Scene?:
Horror and supernatural material gave Jane a chance to explore intensity, dominance and internal conflict. It also offered a clear contrast with the more controlled fantasy, sci-fi and comic scenes elsewhere in the reel.

Performance: Loss of control. Unease. A struggle between the character’s own voice and the thing beginning to overtake it.

Production: The sound design used layered textures and vocal treatment to suggest possession without burying the performance of the alternate character. The aim was to support the transformation, not replace it.

Hear the finished scene:

PossessionJane Wing

Scene 6 - The Sorceress

Aim of this scene:
To demonstrate power and presence within a larger fantasy setting while maintaining emotional truth.

Choice of Genre:
Having already established warmth and wisdom in earlier fantasy scenes, this piece allowed Jane to explore a more commanding and potentially dangerous character without defining the character as good or bad.

Performance:
Confidence. Control. Contained power.

Production Approach:
The soundscape was used to create a greater sense of scale while ensuring the performance remained the centre of attention.

Listen to the finished scene:

Scene 7 - Comic Inventor's Lab

What We Wanted To Acheive:
To introduce lighter material into the reel without undermining the more dramatic scenes that surrounded it..

Why This Genre:
The consultation highlighted the importance of demonstrating range. This scene allowed us to explore comedy while keeping the performance grounded in character rather than broad caricature.

Performance Focus:
Timing. Enthusiasm. Natural comic rhythm.

Production Approach:
The laboratory environment provided opportunities for sound design and interaction while allowing the dialogue itself to drive the humour.

Hear the scene:

Comic Inventor's LabJane Wing

Scene 8 - The Duel

Aim Of The Scene:
To demonstrate intensity, conflict and emotional stakes within a short period of time.

Genre Choice:
Action and confrontation form a significant part of modern gaming performance. This scene provided an opportunity to showcase determination, courage and emotional commitment.

Performance Focus:
Conflict. Resolve. Controlled intensity.

Production:
The production widened significantly, using movement, environmental effects and pacing to create a sense of momentum and danger.

The Finished Reel

Once the individual scenes had been recorded and refined, the final stage was shaping the reel itself. The order of scenes, transitions, music and pacing were all carefully considered to create contrast, momentum and variety while ensuring the reel still felt cohesive. The result is a reel that showcases multiple genres, character types and vocal textures, while remaining rooted in believable performance throughout.

Jane was supplied with this finished reel PLUS all of the scenes above in full so that she could choose to change the order or even the edit of the reel in future without incurring any extra cost.

Two approaches, one goal: castability

Below are two example reels showing different ways this service can work.

Example 1:  Varied Scene Gaming Reel

Gaming ReelNikki Mills
00:00/ 00:10

Example gaming reel featuring multiple characters and tonal contrast.

This reel showcases range and contrast, using multiple short scenes to highlight different characters, tones, and energies in different genres of video games.

This is the most popular type of reel for most voice actors.

Produced for Nikki Mills, this approach is ideal if you want:

  • A breadth of character types
  • Clear vocal contrast
  • Quick-fire moments casting teams can dip into

Example 2: Story Led Gaming Reel

Gaming ReelPhil Rowe
00:00/ 00:10

Example gaming reel featuring multiple characters and tonal contrast.

This reel is structured more like a short narrative, allowing character, tension, and escalation to develop over time.

It’s a good fit if you want:

  • Strong emotional build
  • A sense of stakes and progression
  • Something that plays like a self-contained in-game moment

Both approaches are equally valid – it’s about what best serves you and where you are in your career.

Additional example: Character direction with an emerging performer

ReelEli Rowe
00:00/ 00:10

Alongside the gaming reels above, I’ve included this additional example to illustrate my approach to direction and performance coaching.
This reel was created with my grandson, an emerging young performer. While it isn’t a dedicated gaming reel, it demonstrates the same fundamentals that underpin my gaming work:

  • Clear character intention
  • Patient, confidence-building direction
  • Multiple takes to explore performance choices
  • Clean, professional production

I’m including it here simply as another example of how I work.
If you’re only interested in gaming-specific reels, the examples above are the most relevant.

Beyond gaming reels

If you’d like to hear more of my production work, I’m also happy to share examples of audio drama and narrative projects I’ve produced.

A note on experience
Alongside my voice acting work, I also write and produce audio drama.

This year, I’ve had multiple nominations at the One Voice Awards for performances in audio dramas that I wrote and produced, with nominations shared by the actors involved.

While those nominations are for individual performance, they reflect the same skills that underpin this reel service: shaping scenes, guiding actors, and producing work that supports strong, believable performances.

I mention this not as a selling point, but as context for how and why I approach reel creation the way I do.

I’m currently operating via a waiting list so each project gets proper time and attention.

If you’d like confirmation of pricing, availability or any have any questions, get in touch
and I'll be happy to help:
