I’ve got some exciting news to share. I’ve just launched a brand new weekly podcast: A Voice Like This — a personal project that brings together my love of performance, language, and literature in a whole new way.
Over the past few years, my voiceover work has taken me to some wonderful places — commercials, video games, narration, audio drama — but I’ve always had a soft spot for the spoken word. There’s something powerful about hearing poetry read aloud; something intimate and timeless. And so, A Voice Like This was born.
Why a poetry podcast?
It’s probably no surprise that I’ve chosen poetry as the focus for this new venture. As a performer, I’ve long believed that poetry lives most fully when it’s heard, not just read. The rhythm, the breath, the silences between the lines — they come alive in the voice. And for me, that’s the real magic.
This podcast is a space for that magic. Each week, I’ll be sharing a short reading — around 10 minutes — of classic poetry, ranging from well-loved favourites to lesser-known gems. No over-analysis, no academic jargon. Just beautiful words, spoken simply and honestly.
What can you expect?
A Voice Like This is designed to be a pause in your week. Whether you’re commuting, walking the dog, or just taking five minutes to yourself, the idea is to offer something reflective, resonant, and calming — a bit of nourishment for the ears and the mind.
Every episode features:
- A hand-picked poem (or occasionally two) from some of the greatest poets in the English language
- A short introduction from me to set the scene
- A clean, studio-quality voiceover recording — no bells or whistles, just voice and verse
- And, of course, my own personal touch as a performer
We’ll cover a wide range of voices: Keats, Dickinson, Yeats, Blake, Whitman, Christina Rossetti, Robert Louis Stevenson — and many others. And if there’s a piece you’d like me to consider reading in future episodes, I’d love to hear from you.
Where to listen
The podcast is now live on all major platforms, including:
- Apple Podcasts
- Spotify
- Google Podcasts
- Amazon Music
- And right here on my official podcast page
You can also subscribe directly via Captivate.fm, which is where the show is hosted.
New episodes drop every Monday morning — perfect timing, I hope, for a mindful start to the week.
Why now?
Honestly? Because it felt like time. Voiceover is what I do for a living, but this podcast is something closer to my heart. It’s a chance to share work that moves me, and to reconnect with language in a way that’s slow, thoughtful, and free of algorithms.
And yes — as someone who’s spent most of their career telling other people’s stories, it feels good to be shaping something of my own.
If you enjoy the show, I’d be incredibly grateful if you’d share it, leave a review, or just drop me a note. And if you’re a fellow poetry lover, voice actor, or curious listener — welcome. I hope you’ll find something in A Voice Like This that speaks to you.
Thanks for listening.
Phil
